This toolkit equips you with the strategies, materials list, and step-by-step process for conducting effective clean clam outreach in your community.
Before You Start
Effective outreach starts with preparation. Know your audience — are you talking to neighbors, coworkers, students, or strangers at a public event? Each group requires a slightly different approach. Have printed materials ready (download pamphlets from our Resources page). Dress presentably. And bring your genuine enthusiasm for the cause.
Setting Up an Outreach Table
If you're doing outreach at a community event, farmers market, or public space: bring a small table, a Clean Clams banner or sign, printed pamphlets, a signup sheet for our mailing list, and some conversation starters. A friendly smile and an open posture invite people to approach.
Door-to-Door Outreach
Going door-to-door in your neighborhood is one of the most personal and effective outreach methods. Introduce yourself, briefly explain the Clean Clams mission, offer a pamphlet, and invite them to visit our website. Keep it short — under 2 minutes unless they want to talk more. Always be respectful of people's time.
Workplace Outreach
Talking to coworkers about clean clams can be done casually over lunch or break time. Share a pamphlet, mention an upcoming event, or simply talk about why you care. Workplace conversations often lead to the most committed new members because people already know and trust you.
Social Media Outreach
Share our website, events, and mission on your personal social media. Use hashtags like #CleanClams #CleanClamsLocal1 #CleanClamsChicago. Authentic personal posts are more effective than polished marketing — share your story and why you joined the movement.
Follow Up
If someone expresses interest, follow up within a few days. Send them a link to our website. Invite them to a specific event. Personal follow-up is what converts casual interest into lasting engagement. Every member of the brotherhood was once someone who was just curious.
